Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Monday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day is
going well and that your weekend was good and that you’re looking forward to
another week.

On Friday on the programme, we saw Hull’s own Liam Mower, who’s done so well
starring in the musical, Billy Elliot in London. What a talented lad he is. You
probably saw him on the television on Children In Need night. I see as well,
that the original cast recording from Billy Elliot, the musical, is out
tomorrow on CD. It’s a limited edition CD boxset with music of course by Elton
John. That’s the soundtrack to Billy Elliot, the musical, out on CD tomorrow.

Just a reminder, that tonight on the programme, we’ll have all the day’s news,
Paul will have the weather forecast and amongst my guests tonight - well a star
of Emmerdale and also I’ll be talking to William Hague on the eve of the
announcement of the new leader of the Conservative party. I’ll be talking to
William Hague tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm. Join me then.

Breakfast

I don’t know what you have for breakfast in the morning. I normally have either
cereal, bran flakes or toast or if I’m really hungry, usually in the winter,
I’ll have both! But a banana for breakfast has become the choice for millions
of health conscious Britons, a survey has shown, before they make a dash for
work. Clock-watching families find it impossible to sit down for a traditional
meal to start their day, so growing numbers are turning to fruit as a healthy
alternative. According to the trade magazine, The Grocer, two and a half
billion bananas were eaten in the home last year. That’s an increase of 2% on
the previous years and a third of these are consumed for breakfast. So there
you are, if you’re eating bananas for breakfast, then you’re one of the
in-crowd!

Write

Don’t forget if you want to drop me a line on any subject, but in particular if
you’ve got an issue or a problem that you think we might be able to deal with
on the programme, then you should know the address by now, it’s [EMAIL
PROTECTED] Keep those pictures coming in as well, all those digital pictures,
if you could send them via email for the Big Screen or if you haven’t got a
digital camera, then send me a hard copy in the post to BBC Look North
Photographs, Queens Court, Queens Gardens, Hull, HU1 3RH.

I see from the paper this morning, as I was saying last week, that satellite
navigation systems are going to be one of the most bought presents for
Christmas. Sales of digital cameras are probably going to exceed even that!
It’s looking like digital cameras are going to be the number one Christmas
present this year!

Cyclists

Cyclists have killed more than nine pedestrians and injured more than a
thousand in the last five years, according to figures by the Department of
Transport. They are referring to it as the Rising Toll of the Lycra Louts. The
shocking figures come as complaints soar about the behaviour of so-called Lycra
Louts, who ride on pavements and ignore traffic signals, whilst speeding around
busy urban streets. If you are a cyclist, you may have a view on this.
Alarmingly, the death and injury toll does not include 2005, which saw a 400%
increase in cycling after the terror attacks on the public transport system in
London in July of this year. So a 400% increase in cycling in this country!
It’s amazing isn’t it?

Where You Live

Well, I live on a Court. Sounds very posh, doesn’t it? Well, it’s Victoria
Dock, so we are very posh! But if you live on a Lane, your house could be worth
£50 000 more than the same property set on a Drive, according to some research
out today. The average price of a three bedroom semi with the word Lane in its
address is £215 000, 17% more than the national average of £184 000. Properties
in Gardens also commanded higher than average prices, £211 000, whilst those in
Roads sell for about £196 000. But the cheapest houses are found in Drives,
selling for an average £166 000 or 9% less than average. And homes on Groves
and Streets don’t fare much better. So, if you’re in the process of house
buying at the moment, then Lane is the best place to live and Gardens is also a
good place to live too! Try and avoid Roads and Drives! I don’t know who writes
these surveys, or where they comes from, most of them I think are a load of
rubbish. Again, any views on that one, especially if !
you are buying or selling your home at the moment, then all emails gratefully
received. As ever, you can get me on [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Well, that’s all from me for today. Join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm and look
out for your Levy Letter tomorrow. Have a good day.

Bye for now.

Peter
