Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Monday’s Levy Letter. Thanks for joining
me and I hope you’ll watch the programme on BBC1 at 6.30pm. A former star of
Eastenders will be joining us tonight on the sofa, we’ll have all the day’s
news and of course Paul will have the forecast. We’ll also have some great news
this week about just how many calendars have been sold and how much money we’ve
raised for Children In Need. So try and join me tonight at 6.30pm.

Look North is also giving you the chance to win two tickets to see Paul Daniels
in pantomime in Peterborough and the chance to meet him backstage. All you have
to do is answer this question – What’s the name of Paul Daniels’ showbiz son,
who’s also in the magic and comedy industry? Just answer that and let me know
and you could win the chance to meet Paul Daniels! Of course, you do have to be
available to travel down to Peterborough for this prize, but if you can and you
want to enter, then drop me a line with the answer to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Birthdays

This note says, “Would you please wish my husband a very happy birthday for the
13th December. His name is John Dawes. Please give him all my love.” And that
comes from Ann Dawes. So thank you very much for that one, Ann. And it’s John’s
birthday tomorrow on Tuesday, so a very happy birthday to John and have a very
good day!

And this one says, “Dear Peter, Our shop on Newark Road in North Hykeham has
just won, for the second year running, the best dressed shop window
competition. We think our shop frontage is better than Harrods Christmas
window! We’re on the main road going towards Newark and the amount of people
passing by that enjoy our window is amazing. We think it would be good if you
could feature this on the programme!” Well, I have passed this on to the
producers! “It always seems to be the big multiple stores with unlimited
resources that receive prominence. Well, we’re looking for some prominence at
this time of the year.” Well, that one comes from Carole Thompson and they run
Arrow Cycles on Newark Road in North Hykeham. So I’ve passed that one on to the
producers and we’ll see if we can get some pictures of the shop front. Better
than Harrods apparently!

This one comes from Leticia Cochran-Hill, “Dear Peter, I belong to your Levy
Letter list and I look forward to reading your Levy Letter every day. I am in
the United States at the moment, but I’ll be back in Hull after the holidays.
Please would you give my gorgeous husband, Alan Hill a very happy birthday for
tomorrow.” So Alan, happy birthday to you and Leticia, thank you very much
indeed for the note.

And this one says, “Would you please wish all my friends and family a very
happy Christmas and a happy New Year, especially to my husband Brian Bell as
it’s the first time in forty-one years that we’ve been apart for Christmas.
Please tell him that I’m missing him. All the best to the Look North team for
Christmas and the New Year!” That one comes from Carol Bell and a very happy
Christmas to Brian. Carol, thank you very much indeed for the note.

David Cameron

Apparently, the papers have more stories this weekend about David Cameron than
anyone else at all. Endless stories - I haven’t read them all, but one paper
says that there are more mentions of David Cameron than anybody else, which I
suppose is understandable. Gyles Brandreth, professional wit and former MP, has
a new role as Tory Prophet after he predicted, apparently, I read this in the
Sunday papers, that thirteen years ago, the new leader David Cameron was the
one to watch! And at a Westminster luncheon last week, he said to the gathered
audience that ‘unto us a star is born and his name is David!’ So expect to see
Brandreth in the top Tory posts soon, according to the paper. But quite a funny
line, nevertheless!

And sell out concerts – well we seem to do very well in our area. The
Sugababes, of course are coming to Hull next year and I see that the gig will
be at the City Hall in March. That concert has already sold out and the
wonderful Katie Melua is doing a tour during January and February. And the only
one of her dates that is completely sold out is the one nearest to us at the
Harrogate National Conference Centre. So Katie Melua is on her way to our part
of the world in January. And we’re trying to get another chat with her in the
early part of next year if we can.

Paul McKenna

The latest TV show that everyone is going to be talking about this week is on
one of the satellite channels, and it’s called Paul McKenna Will Make You Thin!
The presenter will programme the minds of the watching audience through the
television to make them all lose weight! Some worry that this may break
broadcasting rules, but he says that this uses programming techniques rather
than hypnosis. We’ll watch this programme and be told, for example, to think of
a horrible food, while we’re eating our favourite meal. Paul McKenna has a 71%
success rate, one of the highest in the world to get us to lose weight. So now
there is a TV show to help us lose weight. Well, we’ll wait and see on that
one, but Paul McKenna’s programme is starting shortly.

Well, that’s it from me for today. Enjoy your Monday. Of course, the countdown
to Christmas has begun, it’s less that two weeks away now. So, after a busy day
buying Christmas presents and writing Christmas cards, I hope you’ll be able to
join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm.

Take care

Peter
