Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Friday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day’s
going well and that you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm. If
you’re a fan of Strictly Come Dancing, then we’ll have something of interest
tonight for you as well as Paul and all the rest of the day’s news. Join me at
the usual time.

Don’t forget over the weekend, if there’s someone you know you think would like
a Levy Letter, then get them to sign up. Just a reminder, that the addresses
are at the bottom of the page, go to those, click on Levy Letter, follow the
instructions through and they’ll get their first Levy Letter on Monday.

Birthdays

One of the things that has really caught on is the birthday spot on the Levy
Letter. I’ve got loads coming in at the moment. Hello to Katie Jones, it’s her
birthday today. She’s twenty-three. Katie, happy birthday and lots of love from
Mum and Dad.

An email here from Lesley in Boston, she writes, “Great show tonight, you and
Paul are the best tonic for laughter. I was wondering if you could give my
husband, Paul Harrison, a birthday mention in your Levy Letter. He will be the
big 50 on Sunday, the 11th December.” Of course we can Lesley! So Paul, I hope
you enjoy your birthday on Sunday and many happy returns to you.

And a note here from Carole Jones from Bridlington, she says, “When you do your
Levy Letter on Friday, could you wish my husband Steve in Saudi Arabia a very
happy birthday for the 10th December.” Happy birthday Steve. “He was not lucky
enough to get in his request for my birthday on the 6th, but maybe I will
succeed where he did not!” Well, Carole Jones in Bridlington, belated greetings
to you and happy birthday for the 6th and happy birthday as well to Steve. He’s
one of our long distance readers all the way in Saudi Arabia, Steve and Carole,
but they still have strong links with Bridlington.

Missing Dog

I suppose if you start something like this, then you open the floodgates, but
this is such a sad email, I thought I’d have a bash. This comes from Lisa
Scargill. She writes, “Can you help me. Yesterday my dog went missing. I have
three very upset children, so I was hoping you might be able to say something
for me and see if we can get him back. He’s a cocker spaniel. His name is Spot
and he went missing in the Boston area. I’ve put up a reward, because my
children are so upset.” So if anyone sees a lost looking cocker spaniel in the
Boston area, then get in touch with me and I’ll put you in touch with Lisa. You
can get me as always at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

William Hague

We started the week with an interview with William Hague on Monday, and I was
ribbing him about how he won’t have time for writing when he has a job in the
Shadow Cabinet and lo and behold of course he has. He’s agreed to become Shadow
Foreign Secretary, giving up his outside interests that earn him, well it’s
estimated, around one million pounds a year. David Cameron persuaded Mr Hague
to join his Shadow Cabinet in a line up of heavy hitters. So there you are, you
heard it first on Look North on Monday night, but now it is official!

Women On The Phone

For many long-suffering husbands and partners, it can feel as if their wives
and girlfriends are never off the phone. Yesterday a survey revealed just how
much longer than men, women spend making calls - a whole year and a half during
their working lifetime. Ok, let me clarify that one. Women spend a year longer
on the phone than men. Some people will say – really as little as that?! But
what men may be surprised to learn is that when it comes to hogging the phone,
they’re almost as bad as their other half. The average woman spends four and
three quarter years phoning during her working life. That means that she’s away
for forty-two thousand hours making calls. But whilst many men pride themselves
on keeping call times to a minimum, they still clock up an average of three and
a quarter years or twenty-eight and a half thousand hours on the phone.
Staggering isn’t it?

Suggestions

Don’t forget, if you’ve got an idea or a suggestion of something we should talk
about on the programme, or a guest that you’d like to see on the sofa, then do
drop me a line and let me know. We’re still looking for problems for Leave it
to Levy. If you think you might have something that we could tackle on the
show, then get in touch and we’ll see if we can sort it out. And also, I
haven’t mentioned it all this week, but the Children in Need Peter and Paul
calendar are still available. £5 from our receptions in Lincoln, Grimsby or
Hull or available if you want to pop along to one of our BBC buses. If you
can’t get out, then you might want to send me a cheque made payable to the BBC
for £6. Post it to me, and then the extra £1 will cover the postage and
packing. It’s not too late to get hold of your Children In Need Peter and Paul
calendar. Then get in touch with me.

Well that’s it from me for today. Have a very good weekend. Whatever you’re
doing, then I hope it goes well. I look forward to being with you tonight on
BBC1 at 6.30pm. Look out for your Levy Letter on Monday. Have a great weekend.

Take care

Peter
