Hello, its Peter here and welcome to Wednesday’s Levy letter. I hope your day’s
going well and you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at half past Six.
We’ll have all the day’s news and stories as always.

We'll be speaking to the parent of an abused girl in Lincolnshire who's calling
for new laws to expose the paedophiles in her community. Stories like this
always get a strong response, and we’ll be waiting for your comments.

BBC Radio Lincolnshire is sending 100 children to Lapland for Christmas. We’ll
speak to one deserving 7 year old who always helps her poorly mum. That’ll be a
lovely reward for her, and I bet those children are looking forward to that
trip of a lifetime.

I’ll be talking to Syd Little ahead of his Panto appearance in our region. He
is of course setting out on his own now after his long and successful time as
half of comedy duo Little and Large.

And apparently there are six sites for travellers in East Yorkshire, and we’ll
get both sides of this massively controversial issue on the programme tonight.
That’s another one to generate a lot of interest. We’ll be checking your
emails, texts, and calls as always.

And I'll be finding out how difficult it is to play a diggery doo! That’s not a
question I often ask myself, I must admit, but I’m sure it’ll be a lot of fun
and I can’t wait to see what Paul has to say about that!

And of course Paul will be with us for the weather forecast as usual.

Letter

I think we’re back on track now, I’m sorry about some of the problems we’ve had
with letters arriving late and not at all and then all together! Apparently
there was a problem with our computer server in London. I gather it is fixed,
and we’re now back on track. Thanks to everyone who emailed to let me know that
the letter wasn’t arriving, or was arriving, or arriving late and everything.
It was all very useful, but I think we are now sorted.

Charity

Well, you know I love to hear about all the great charity work you get up to.
Well, Mike Gardner has been in touch with me to let me know about a fantastic
amount of money raised by Skirlington Leisure Park. They've raised £14,000 for
four very deserving charities, Hornsea Rescue, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Martin
House Hospice and Macmillan Nurses. And he goes on to tell me about a special
999 day they're holding at the park on Saturday 28th October from about 2pm.
Representatives from the emergency services will be there and Look North's own
Caroline Davis will be popping along to present the cheque to the charities. So
thanks Mike for letting me know about this and well done to the Happy Campers
Fundraisers for all their hard work. I hope your event goes well on Saturday
and if you're about at Skirlington Leisure Park on Saturday and you see
Caroline, then go over and say hello! And of course, if you've been involved in
some charity work and you've got a story to tell about!
your fundraising, then let me know. I could mention your hard work in the
Levy Letter some time. So email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Millionaires

A study by a wealth management company has shown that male millionaires in the
UK continue to outnumber their female counterparts by around 104,000 to 68,000.
But the gap is closing, so more women are becoming millionaires, and of course
if Michelle Dewberry has her way as she mentioned in her interview with me a
few weeks back, she will be a millionairess. I feel quite sure she will be.
What a fabulous girl Michelle is as well, and I hope we’ll be able to see her
on the programme and around Hull more often.

Bullies

A record number of women are being bullied at work according to new research.
And in many cases, they’re the victims of male bosses who see them as a threat,
according to the experts. This new report says that men and women can become
depressed and anxious because of bullying and gradually lose confidence in
their ability to do their job. Many quit to escape the bullying, and make up an
excuse for their departure. The report says that one in five workers experience
some form of bullying or harassment. That’s over the last few years, and that’s
very high. And pressure in the workplace is one driving the figure even higher
according to the report just out. So one on five feel they’re being bullied at
work.

Mobile Phone

This is slightly worrying, you might have seen this or read it in the newspaper
– whether it’s true or not, I don’t know. Men who use mobile phones could be
risking their fertility according to researchers. A study has found there is a
link between poor sperm and the amount of time a man spends on his mobile.
Those who use a hand set more than four hours a day had a 25% lower sperm count
than men who never used a mobile. How do they know, and why did they do the
research? So there we are, four hours a day on the mobile will damage a man’s
fertility.

Weather

I mentioned this yesterday briefly, and it prompted quite a few emails from
people saying that their plants are all over the place and some of the trees
have still got leaves on, so it’s just driving nature crazy. The never ending
summer is confusing plants and is also bringing a Caribbean crop to down in
Devon. If you’re confused by the weather, then not as much as the plants. And
many of them are doing what they shouldn’t be doing, and somebody’s even
written to tell me that her daffodil bulbs, which are due out next spring, are
already coming out. So any more stories about the balmy weather, or even better
some photos we can use on the programme will be gratefully received.
And if you’ve got any pictures you think we’d like to receive for the
programme, anything you’re particularly proud of, or if you’ve got a story you
think I can use on Look North, then drop me a line and give me the details at

Greens

Eating three portions of greens a day can keep memory loss at bay according to
researchers. Pensioners who meet the dietary target are as mentally alert as
someone five years younger, they say. Vitamin E is thought to be the key
benefit, known to keep the mind sharp, it is found in higher concentrations in
vegetables than in fruit. So you need to eat your greens, green leafy
vegetables like spinach and kale are especially rich apparently. And it says to
eat three portions a day – how does somebody eat three portions a day of
spinach? Even if you had it at lunch and tea time every day, that would only be
two, and you can’t have it at breakfast as well. This, anyway, is the answer if
you want to be five years younger in terms of memory. I think personally I’d
rather be five years older and not have to eat three portions of greens a day.
But I suppose live and let live!

Well that’s it from me today, have a very good afternoon, and I’ll see you
tonight on BBC One at six thirty. Bye for now

Peter
