Hello, it's Peter here and welcome to Tuesday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day is
going well and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight as usual on BBC One at
6.30pm. I’ll have all the day’s news and of course the detailed weather
forecast.

On tonight's programme, I'll have the latest on the cement lorry, which has
crashed into a primary school playground in Snaith. This has occurred at an
accident black spot and there are calls for safety improvements to be made to
this area. A woman has been seriously injured in the accident and we'll be live
at the scene tonight to get the latest.

Also tonight, we'll be finding out more about the threat of flooding to our
East Coast and why a sixty-five year old woman had to become a DIY dentist.
Plus we'll be meeting the dinner lady cooking up meals for school children in
her garage. And we'll be meeting the husband and wife, who are quids in with
television game shows. And tune in tonight to find out how you can make sure
rescue dogs are well fed over Christmas. All that tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm.

Emails

Thanks for the emails on a variety of subjects and also thanks for the big
response so far on the Chicago competition. That was the chance to win two
tickets to see the West End musical, Chicago, when it comes to Grimsby
Auditorium in January. Now, if you want to enter and you can get to Grimsby in
January, then answer this question. Who played Billy Flynn in the film version
of the musical? Who played Billy Flynn? If you think you know, then email me in
– [EMAIL PROTECTED] And good luck to you!

Single Parents

Well, once again, children, whose parents are married, do better in life than
those living with single mums or dads or with co-habiting couples, according to
research. The fingers always seem to be pointed at single parents doesn’t it? I
get a bit weary of that after a while. A report says that the children of
single parents are 4% more likely to smoke, they’re more likely to be single,
separated or divorced. They’re more likely to be a single parent and are more
likely to be in social housing and so the list goes on. But one Tory MP has
stood up for them. Ann Widecombe has said that it’s only telling you what is
blatantly obvious. She says that if you have two parents in a long term
committed relationship, then that is a much more stable background for children
than a broken family. It’s a controversial one that one and I’m sure you’ll
have your views either way. Single parents – the finger is pointed at them once
again! Children born into married families do better in life!
. My parents split up when I was ten, which that number of years ago, was not
commonplace like it is today, so I sometimes take exception to these surveys
when they say things like that. But anyway, views on that then get in touch.

Pictures

Don’t forget if you’ve got a picture or a photograph that you’re particularly
proud of and you’d like us to show it on the programme halfway through, then
send it to me electronically. Or you could post in a hard copy and then watch
out for it on screen. Also, if you’re involved in an event for charity in the
run up to Christmas and Children In Need, and you’d like a little plug in the
Levy Letter, then give me the details and I’ll try and give you a mention.

Hull Truck

The Evening with Peter Levy is on this coming Sunday and is starting at 7.30pm
at Hull Truck theatre. If you’re coming along and you’ve got tickets, then I
look forward to seeing you there. This is just a last reminder that it is sold
out, but if there are any returns or any tickets that can’t be used, then the
box office will be the place to get in touch!

Champagne

Supermarket’s own label champagne is as good, if not better, than the top
branded bubbly. Those are compared with the ones with the very expensive
looking labels and the very expensive price tags! That’s according to none
other than Egon Ronay. In a blind taste test of thirty bottles of supermarket
champagne, the top three were described as excellent by the leading food
critic. They were priced between £14.00 and £18.00 proving that popping the
cork on own brand bottles was much cheaper than buying the big name champagnes.
A report says that often champagne that is cheap from the supermarket is as
good, if not better than some of the expensive stuff! You can of course pay a
fortune for champagne, but one supermarket’s own brand champagne rosé at
£16.29 was named the best rosé of those tested! So there you are. Champagne –
buy it from the supermarket! I’m sure it’s all snobbery really to do with the
labels!

Well, that's it from me for today. Join me tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm.

Bye for now.

Peter
