Hello it’s Peter here and welcome to Monday’s Levy Letter. Hope your day’s
going well and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at six
thirty. We’ll have all the days news, including a report on plans to curb the
number of dogs walkers can take out on a leash. I’m sure a lot of you will have
an opinion on this one, so be sure to watch this tonight.

We'll have the Karting champion who's burning rubber at just 13 years old, I’m
sure he has a bright future ahead of him.

We’ll also be asking should a woman with 13 children be allowed to have IVF
treatment? Again, this is bound to provoke a big response, and I look forward
to seeing what you have to say on the subject.

And tonight we report on the trial of people accused of setting up a brothel in
Beverley. That’s one of those amazing stories you can’t believe happens right
under our noses, and if you live in Beverley or that area, we’ll have the
latest on proceedings.

And also Paul will have the detailed forecast as always. Join us as usual at
half past six.

Weekend

I hope you had a good weekend, whatever you were up to, I hope it went well,
and if you had a bonfire, or fireworks last night I hope they went off well and
it was an enjoyable time. We certainly were lucky with the weather, so mild
last night. I went to the marina and watched the fireworks over Princes Quay
shopping centre as always. I don’t think there is another city like Hull that
can do fireworks quite so well. We always seem to put on a very good display.
Quarter of an hour of superb fireworks, and of course it was only a few months
back that we had the fireworks at Wilberforce House. Anyway, I hope the weekend
was good and you’re ready for the start of another week.

And today in the Levy Letter we have a special competition! Now this is to win
tickets to see the top West End musical Chicago which is on its way to Grimsby.
Tickets are for January, and make sure that if you do enter that you can get to
Grimsby for the show.

The question is – In the movie Chicago, who played Billy Flynn? If you think
you know, email in as soon as possible at [EMAIL PROTECTED] We’ll make the draw
later in the week.

Millionaire

Well it’s a big question that’s on everyone’s lips at the moment, everyone
seems to be talking about it, indeed it was written about in one of the Sunday
papers. Why has “Who wants to be a Millionaire” suddenly become so difficult?
Well the answer is that the show has paid out millions in prize money and is
running out of cash. Already this series, producers have paid out £1.34 million
in prizes in just four shows. Not only that but there’s another 18 to come. In
the whole of the last series, the 19th, the total paid out was £2 million.
£1.34 million after just four shows! Chris Tarrant is the host, he’s said to
have been asked at the Nation Television awards last week if the questions had
been getting harder, he denied it, but the feeling from viewers is that they
certainly are getting more difficult. The latest millionaire was one Ingram
Wilcox who won £1 million. Well, are the questions getting harder? Let me know
your views on that one, and indeed anything else to the us!
 ual address.

Children in Need

Now Children in Need night is on the 17th November, and if you make it to The
Deep then I look forward to seeing you there. And this coming Sunday, the place
to be is at the Hull Truck Theatre for An Evening with Peter Levy. We’re there
to raise money, of course I’ll be speaking to some guests. The money is going
to Children in Need. The show is sold out, but if you want to find out if there
are any ticket returns or last minute tickets then give the box office a call
on 01482 323638 and I look forward to seeing you there on Sunday night,
starting at 7.30.

Katherine Jenkins

Now a guest on Friday night was the singer Katherine Jenkins who was on the
sofa ahead of her singing gig in Grimsby and also her brand new album which is
just out, it’s called Serenade. I noticed as well that she was on the
television at the weekend on the programme Heaven and Earth. Katherine is not
only a fabulous singer, but also a really nice person. She gave up her time and
made the journey all the way across to Hull from Liverpool to meet and talk
with us on Friday night. I’ve been listening to her album over the weekend.
It’s a really, really good listen, songs right across the board. If you like
that sort of music then I think her latest album is her best to date. Serenade
it’s called, and it’s just out.

Good Life

Tom and Barbara did it didn’t they? Felicity Kendal and Richard Briers in The
Good Life. Six out of ten Britons are tired of the rat race and are considering
ditching their material ambitions for a better quality of life. The dream that
inspired the ‘70s sit-com has endured for decades, but never has it been so
popular. 61% of working adults are re-assessing their priorities and are
thinking about a life shift which would give them stress free jobs, and more
time with their loved ones. More and more people are wanting to take up the
good life and get away from the rat race.

Getting Away

Well talking of getting away from the rat race, more than a million Britons
have left for new lives abroad since the turn of the millennium according to
the latest figures. The number of people emigrating has gone up year on year
since the 1990s. While more people are heading for France, Spain, and Australia
or the United States, fewer Britons are returning than at any time in a decade.
It’s hard to believe but a thousand people a day are actually emigrating to set
up home abroad. It’s a staggering figure.

Pictures

Don’t forget, if you’ve got a picture that you’re particularly proud of, and
that you’d like to show on the programme, send it to me either electronically
to [EMAIL PROTECTED], or put a hard copy in the post.

Thanks for reading the letter, have a good Monday afternoon, and join me for a
busy programme tonight on BBC One at six thirty. Bye for now.

Peter
