Hi there, it’s Peter here. On tonight’s programme, we’ll be speaking to the
have-a-go hero, who was slashed across the face with a knife after confronting
three teenagers who smashed the window of his Chinese takeaway. I’ll be asking
for your views on this tonight about how you’d react in that situation if your
property was being damaged. Tune in tonight to get the full story.

We'll have the latest on concerns about the potential increase in flying hours
for the Typhoon at RAF Coningsby. We're speaking to the Ministry of Defence and
the husband of Heather Bell, the Lincolnshire woman who was killed after her
horse was spooked by low flying aircraft.

Also tonight, after the dramatic evacuation of a sick crew member on board the
Hull and Humber clipper, the yacht, which is taking part in the round the world
race, could face a time penalty for not restarting its engine at the right
time. More on what that means for the crew tonight as we follow their progress
around the world.

And residents living near the burnt out Environcom recycling plant in Grantham
raise concerns over the future of the building. They’ve been in touch with us
with their worries about the fire-damaged building.

There'll also be a full sports roundup and the weather forecast with Paul as
usual. Join us tonight at six thirty if you can. And in the meantime, if you
become aware of a story or issue in your local area, then let us know and we’ll
see if we can help in some way. It’s the usual email address of [EMAIL
PROTECTED]

Housing

There seems to be a lot of stories in the media at the moment looking at the
fears of the stability of the financial world. And here’s another one this
morning with the news that house prices have finally fallen for the first time
in two years this month. There’s been a big drop in the big London bankers
using their City bonuses to buy property in Central London and in the
second-home holiday areas with huge knock-on effects in those rural areas. The
drop will be about 60% this year according to that report. And the effects down
South could be felt up here too. Warnings are that we will not be exempt from
the effects of America’s property recession. They apparently went through the
worst recession in sixteen years. However, experts suggest that this could just
be a small blip and the housing market could be back on track by 2010. We’ll
have to wait and see won’t we?

‘Long Way Down’

There’s quite a bit of talk of Ewan McGregor’s latest programme on BBC Two last
night. I think there are a few fans of his last show ‘Long Way Around’ in the
newsroom here. Well his new one was aired last night and sees him and his
friend, Charley Boorman, taking the ‘Long Way Down’ on a fifteen thousand mile
trip from John O’Groats to Cape Down in South Africa on their motorbikes. After
the first episode last night, it doesn’t seem really likely that they’ll get
there – they seemed to be having loads and loads of problems with the trip. So
I might have to take up people’s advice and tune in this Sunday for the next
part of the journey!

An email here from Fiona Ramsden. She had a query and I didn’t know the answer,
so I thought I’d share it with you. “Dear Peter, I don't know if anyone has
contacted you already, but has anybody noticed an excessively large amount of
starlings, especially in the Bempton area. Every evening, we are getting
thousands of Starlings roosting in the trees at the back of our house. The
noise that they make is phenomenal. They are still there first thing in a
morning. They have literally filled the trees. Does anybody know what's causing
this? Why are there so many? I have never seen this before. Is it because of
the mild weather? Have they forgotten to fly south?” Well, I don’t know about
that one. What do you reckon? Have you noticed a lot of Starlings at the
moment?

And just finally a quick plug for Brian Denison. He’s the secretary of the
Scunthorpe Gilbert and Sullivan Amateur Operatic Society. They’ve got their
latest show, ‘A Topsy Turvy World’, at the Plowright Theatre in Scunthorpe on
the 2nd and 3rd of November at 7.30pm. The concert will showcase the most well
known of Gilbert and Sullivan songs and I’ve been told that audience
participation is expected. So get your singing voice ready! Good luck to them
with that show.

Well, that's it from me for today. Join me tonight if you can.

Take care,

Peter
