Welcome to the last edition of the Levy Letter for this week. And don’t you
think it’s looking Autumnal at the moment? I remember reading something
recently that New England in America is renowned for its spectacular colours as
the leaves turn red, but we’re just as lucky in the UK for our dramatic
Autumnal shades. I’ve seen a couple of photographs in the inbox this morning
showing the lovely brown and red trees. If you see any other beautiful sights
of Autumn as you’re out and about, then don’t forget to take a quick snap for
us. Send it in to the usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED] We’d love to see them
and show them on the programme.

Last night we had the breaking news about an alleged terror suspect in Goole
being arrested. Well tonight, we'll have the latest on this.

Also as yet another church loses part of its roof in lead theft, we'll be
finding out how the police are planning on tackling the black market in metal.

We'll be going behind the scenes at the Corus steelworks in Scunthorpe with a
group of chemistry students as they take part in a very unique science class.

And it's a big weekend for rugby as Great Britain play New Zealand, we'll be
getting all the action from the KC Stadium. Plus Peter Jackson will be issuing
a rallying call on the programme to all the Imps fans ahead of his first game
as manager of Lincoln City tonight. That’s all on BBC One at half past six as
usual.

Yesterday on the programme, we took a look at this year’s Christmas Box appeal.
It’s all set up by a charity in Beverley called Real Aid. Well, I’ve noticed a
few people from the answer phone and text messages, who were interested in the
details of this. Well, Real Aid hope this year to again send hundreds of
Christmas Shoe Boxes to children in Africa and Eastern Europe, who find
themselves living in extreme poverty. These boxes can include things like
colouring books and crayons, skipping ropes, soap and facecloths, new
underwear, puzzles and small toys, and first aid kits or anything you’d like to
send to them. They have a big warehouse in Beverley and there’s a website for
more information – www.realaid.org.uk. Good luck to them in this year’s appeal.

Now then, if you like musicals, then there’s a treat in store for you coming to
Hull. It’s a new show called ‘The Magic of the Musicals’. Plus it stars an old
friend of Look North, Wayne Sleep. He was one of the artists, who gave up their
time to appear on the ‘Evening With Peter Levy’ event, which was last year –
can you believe that? How time flies. Not only is this show starring Wayne, but
also Melanie Stace. And Melanie is an old friend, who has the most incredible
singing voice. You’ll remember her from hosting the Generation Game with Jim
Davidson. So if you like music from the shows, then this is a must. It’s on in
Hull on the fifteenth of November, so look out for that.

Ouch!

I thought these figures were just quite extraordinary when I read them
recently. University graduates will have to hand over almost half their
salaries to the taxman within five years. This new report showed that about
half of their salaries would be spent on loan repayments, direct and indirect
taxation, national insurance, pension contributions and council tax. Concerns
are that tax at the moment is very age biased towards helping the older
generations. So yet another doom and gloom story in the papers for our
students.

Stale Biscuits

I don’t fancy this much, would you? Eighty year old biscuits are going up for
auction this month. And these biscuits in their original tin could sell for
about £3,000. It’s apparently a very rare 1920s tin in the form of a Sports
Coupe car and it even has little electric headlights on it. They suggest that a
child could play with the tin afterwards, but I’m sure there are some adults,
who might like to too! I can perhaps understand that people like collecting
biscuit tins, but I think if I bought it, then I’d tip out the mouldy biscuits
instantly! Or perhaps I’m missing the point!

Well on that note, I’ll say goodbye to the Letter for another week and I hope
you can join me tonight on the programme at half past six. Have a lovely
weekend.

Peter
