Hi there. Welcome to the start of another week of Levy Letters. I’m sure this
is a story that’s been affecting many people across our region. Certainly,
judging by our inbox and answer phone, then that would be the case. So, after
six weeks of campaigning, the post office consultation period is now over. If
you've been fighting to save your local post office from closure, then there's
now nothing more that you can do. Tune in tonight to get the highlights of the
last day of campaigning across the region and find out what happens now.

Also tonight, Damian Johnson is live at Grimsby today for a round up of the
sports news, including looking back at Alan Buckley's first year of management
at the club and finding out what his plans are for the future of Grimsby Town.
Damian will also be looking back as Gainsborough's cup dreams are dashed, but
looking forward as Lincoln City's hopes stay alive with a review of all the FA
Cup action.

And we'll be meeting Hull's oldest lollipop man, who's celebrating his
seventy-seventh birthday today. Birthday wishes to him! That’s all tonight on
BBC One at half past six.

Rubbish

Well, bins and rubbish is always a hot topic in the Letter and generally Look
North reports about how people are struggling with their bin collections. But
we all deserve a pat on the back apparently for our recycling efforts.
Households in the UK are now recycling more of their rubbish than ever before
and the amount sent to landfill is falling. That’s all according to Government
statistics. The figures don’t show an enormous change, but they’re certainly
going in the right direction. More than 30% of household waste was recycled or
composted in 2006 and 2007. And the amount of waste sent to landfill fell by
5.5%. So, as I say, not massive changes, but we are making a difference.
However, despite all our hard work, Britain apparently throws more waste into
landfill than any other country in the EU. So we’re doing our bit towards being
green, but there’s still some way to go.

Two Quick Plugs

Joan Knight has been in touch with me. She writes – “I am a regular viewer of
Look North and would be so pleased if you could mention the following this
week. The band of the Royal Air Force College, Cranwell are giving a concert in
All Saints' Parish Church, Church Street, Gainsborough on Saturday 17th
November at 7.30pm. It is their first visit to Gainsborough and the varied
programme offers music to suit all tastes. All proceeds are shared between RAF
charities and All Saints' church.” So that comes from Joan Knight and thanks
Joan for getting in touch with us. Good luck with your concert and I hope you
raise some money for those good causes.

And a plug of a slightly different nature! Yes, the BBC pantomime is back again
this year. Tickets have gone on sale today and I’ve been told to warn you that
you’ll have to be quick if you want to get yours as there are not as many
tickets as last year. This year the staff of the BBC in Hull will be treading
the boards in ‘Cinderella’. They’ll be doing the usual tour of Cleethorpes
Memorial Hall on Wednesday 12th December at 7.30pm. Tickets are £8 and £7. They
are available from Cleethorpes Tourist Information Centre, you can buy them at
the centre or call 01472 323111. And the Hull shows are all at the Middleton
Hall on Cottingham Road. They are Saturday 15th December at 2pm and 7pm, Sunday
16th December at 2pm and 7pm, then Monday 17th - Wednesday 19th December at
7.30pm. Tickets are the same price and are available from the Hull City Council
booking office and their number is 01482 226655. And unlike last year, there
are no repeats in January. So the tickets will go quic!
kly. I believe the panto rehearsals are well underway. And get your tickets
quickly from the box offices if you’d like to go and see ‘Cinderella’ this
year. The staff at the BBC in Hull always put in so much work into these
pantomimes and all the money raised goes to some great local charities. So
break a leg to the cast and I hope the rehearsals go well!

Well, that's it from me for now. Just finally, a very quick note to say
congratulations to Paul Hudson as his second little baby girl arrived this
weekend. Best of wishes to Paul and Nicola Hudson for their latest addition to
the family!

Take care and wrap up warm if you’re out and about today,

Peter
