Hi there, it’s Peter here with your Letter as usual. On tonight’s Look North,
the misery goes on four months after the floods in June, for one teenage mum in
Hull. We'll be spending the day with her to find out what problems she faces on
a daily basis and we'll be asking the Floods Minister what he plans to do for
the region after the EU pledges £120 million as flood aid.

And we'll have a special report on plans to boost Hull's rail links to West
Yorkshire and London. We’ll find out what this will mean for local businesses.

Plus we'll be talking to local MP, David Davis, about his concerns for the
future of the BAE plant at Brough.

And it's a new look for a new tour - we'll have a special report with the Red
Arrows as they prepare to jet off to the Middle East for six weeks.

And there's a new man at the helm. We'll be asking the new manager of Lincoln
City if he can kick the Imps into touch after their poor start to the season.

And we'll be live in East Park for a Halloween special. Plus the weather
forecast with Paul tonight. One email this morning in the Look North inbox said
he looked like a budgerigar in that yellow shirt last night. I wonder if he’ll
be digging that orange one out for tonight? If he does, then I’m sure the
pumpkin references will be coming in thick and fast!

For The Silver Surfers

The headline for this story was ‘Good News For The Oldies’, so I’m not sure why
my eye was drawn to it! I’ve talked about some of those social networking sites
before like Facebook, Wayne and Bebo. Well, they can now be left for the
young’uns as there’s a new social networking site just for old people run by a
well known insurance company, which specialises in caring for pensioners. And
it’ll probably take off fairly quickly. Research shows that about 16% of over
sixty-fives use the Internet regularly and more impressively the over fifties
account for nearly one third of the total time spent on the Internet in
Britain. That’s a lot of silver surfers! And those trendy networking sites may
have forums for the latest pop tune, but this more sedate website for the
wrinklies will have discussions on gardening tips. Sounds like your kind of
thing? Well, it wouldn’t be much use to me would it? I don’t think you need
many gardening tips for a pot plant.

Culture

Looking for a bit of culture this weekend? Here’s a plug for you, which might
be of interest. There’s been a few of these creative art events running in Hull
and the last one is this Saturday. It’s called Seeds and Bridges 2007 and Jez
has sent me an email about this. He says it’ll be an evening of ‘warming music
and visuals from Finland’. So if that sounds up your street, then it’s at
Artlink on Princes Avenue in Hull from 7.30pm on Saturday 3rd November. And
don’t forget, if you ever want a little plug in the Levy Letter for an event
you’re organising, then get in touch with me and I’ll see if I can help. It’s
the usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Corrie

It’ll be the end of an era! The wonderful Vera Duckworth from Coronation Street
is to be killed off in a storyline to be screened early next year. And I always
think it’s amazing how far soaps have to go to keep the storyline under wraps.
Three alternative endings have been written and will be filmed so that the way
in which she leaves the soap will be kept secret from the media. Vera is played
by Liz Dawn, who’s been on the street for more than three decades. Can you
imagine playing the same character for so long? Our thoughts are with her
though as she’s having to leave the show due to ill health. The show’s
producers have admitted that she’s even having trouble walking across the set.
She’s always been a smoker and was diagnosed with lung disease five years ago,
but quit the habit in 2002. Apparently only a third of her lungs work properly
now, so she’s quite poorly at the moment. So Corrie probably won’t seem the
same when Vera leaves, but she’s due for a dramatic exit e!
arly next year. We’ll have to watch out for that!

Well that’s it from me for today. Children In Need is fast approaching. So get
brainstorming for fundraising ideas. There’ll be lots going on with Look North
and in our region, so I’ll keep you posted on how you can get involved. All of
the latest news on Children In Need from the BBC is at the main national
website on bbc.co.uk/pudsey.

Take care and enjoy this lovely sunny weather we’re getting at the moment.

Peter
