Hi there, its Peter here. Lots of funny emails have come in after Pauls admission last night that perhaps the severe weather warning for our area was a little extreme! To be honest, at lunchtime our correspondent, Paul Murphy, was live into the programme up near Garrowby Hill on the A166 and the weather there looked atrocious. Plus there were lots of reports of accidents on the roads early in the morning, and some photographs of some very impressively large snowmen as well! But it cleared very quickly didnt it? Thank you for sending in all of your photographs. They were much appreciated!
On tonight's programme, we'll have a special report on the operation to detonate the World War Two bomb found in East Yorkshire last Monday. Today, after days of careful planning, the army will carry out the detonation and we'll be there to see it happen. The M62 was closed from half past ten this morning, but the road is now open again to all traffic. So hopefully, disruption for travellers will be over. Lets hope so anyway. For help, if youre in your car today, then tune in to 95.9FM for the latest travel news. Also tonight, we'll take a look at the plans to exhume the body of an East Yorkshire aristocrat as scientists believe his body could provide a breakthrough in the treatment of bird flu. Well have the full story on this tonight. We'll find out how residents of the village of Cranwell feel at the news that they will have the future King of England training on their doorstep. We'll have a special report tonight as Prince Williams starts his training at RAF Cranwell next week. And we'll have a preview of the important FA Cup matches for Hull and Scunthorpe this weekend. Thats all tonight on BBC One at half past six. I hope you can join me for that. Gas Weve looked at the issue of rising gas prices for homeowners struggling to keep their homes warm this winter. Well, youre not alone! Ive been reading about a monument, which is described as an eternal flame, which was built in Bournemouth by local churches to mark the millennium and 2000th anniversary of Christs birth. Well, itll be eternal no more as its to be replaced by an electric bulb, because of rocketing gas bills. The flame was meant to burn continuously, but once they switch to a light bulb, do you think itll have the same effect? Unbelievably, this burning monument was costing £8,000 a year to keep it alight, so they switched it off in 2006 whilst they decided what to do with it. So no burning flame, but the towns people are hoping for a globe-shaped LED light that will use less power than a standard light bulb and change colour every five seconds. So, its not only homeowners that are struggling with rising gas prices! Extras Now you must know by now that Im a huge fan of the BBC series, Extras with Ricky Gervais. And of course, I eagerly tuned in over Christmas for the final Special over the holidays. Did you see it? Did you like it? Ive been asking lots of people in the newsroom if they saw it and if they thought it was a fitting end. And now I read that Ricky Gervais may have come up with an idea for an Extras spin-off series. This new series might star Stephen Merchant and the character of Barry from Eastenders. The actor, Shaun Williamson, said that theyd all jokingly discussed doing a spin-off where the three characters went around in a campervan solving crimes. Sound like a good idea? Well, whatever happens Im definitely going to look out for Rickys latest sitcom with interest! Well, that's it from me for now. Have a good day and join me tonight for Look North if you can.
