Hi there, it’s Peter here. Well, it certainly looks dank out there doesn’t it?
I, for one, certainly feel like it’s a long way away from Summer and a bit of
sunshine!

Tonight on the programme, Look North will reveal that hare coursers are using
loopholes in the law to continue their illegal hunting. Since the hunting ban
was introduced, complaints about hare coursing have risen, but so far there
have been no prosecutions. We'll have more on this story tonight.

Also on the programme, we'll take a look as Lincolnshire Police force start
using hidden speed cameras after a change in the law means that cameras no
longer have to be visible to motorists. Officers claim that this new move will
help cut the death toll on our roads, but we’ll be talking with the motorists,
who are angry at this new decision.

We'll find out why the East Riding of Yorkshire has been named as the most
popular area to move to in the whole of the country. The population in the
region has risen rapidly in the past eight years. Why is it the hot spot to
move to?

Apparently, seven out of ten of us are feeling fat, flabby and fed up according
to a new survey. Sound familiar? We'll be finding out what people are doing, if
anything, at the start of this New Year to improve their fitness.

And we'll have something for every little child or I suppose for every adult,
who hasn’t grown up, as we visit the UK's biggest Scalextric track in
Lincolnshire. That’s all on BBC One at half past six as usual.

Warning

Here’s a warning to us all! Jeremy Clarkson lost money from his account after
publishing his bank details in his newspaper column. Well, I suppose we can all
read this story and think how stupid he was at doing that, but this just goes
to show it’s so easy to put ourselves and our private details at risk. The Top
Gear host revealed his account numbers in the newspaper in an article that
rubbished the furore over the loss of twenty-five million people’s personal
details on two computer disks. He wanted to prove the story was a fuss over
nothing. But he’s eating his words now and admitted he was wrong after he found
out that a reader had used his details to create a £500 direct debit to the
charity Diabetes UK. So there you are – a warning that we should all be careful
with our bank details!

Gadgets Galore

I mention so many times about my love of all things technological. Not that
this means I know anything about how to use them, but I do like reading about
all the latest developments in the world of gadgets and gizmos. So this latest
exhibition sounds like heaven to me. More than twenty thousands new gadgets and
technologies from more than two thousand and seven hundred companies are on
display at the ‘Consumer Electronics Show’ in Las Vegas this month. Here are a
few highlights for you that caught my eye!

When you record your favourite TV show, do you get fed up of watching the
advertisements, or like me, do you fast forward through those bits? Well, the
latest software has been designed to remove the adverts when you record
straight to your PC or hard disk recorder. The software looks for the black
screens that appear momentarily before an advert and then delete the following
section until the programme restarts. I bet advertisers won’t be too happy at
this!

Another one here to help the millions of people around the world that miss out
on listening to the radio, because they are hearing impaired. Experts are
developing a radio for the deaf that can translate speech radio into text in
real time. At the moment, the voice to text conversion has to be done by
typists, but could one day be automatic!

And mobile phones could become even more crucial to our every day lives as they
are being developed to start remotely controlling domestic appliances from
wherever you are in the world. Lights could be switched on or off in your home,
or air conditioning turned up and washing machines could be programmed all
through your mobile phone. No more will you have to worry if you’ve left the
oven on when you leave the house!! Just switch it off with your mobile!

That’s all from me for now. I hope your day is going well. Perhaps an umbrella
might be a good idea if you’re stepping out today!

Take care,

Peter
