Hi there, it’s Peter here. On tonight's programme, as a report into Headlands
School in Bridlington exposes a catalogue of failures by the authorities to
protect its pupils from inappropriate relationships with staff, Look North will
be asking what's being done to ensure pupils are protected in the future. We’ll
get the full story on this tonight.

Also, when you visit Lincolnshire's beaches do you take your litter home with
you? That’s the question we’ll be asking tonight, because according to a
National Marine Conservation group more than 50% of all the litter found on our
beaches has been left by tourists.

It's a big day for RAF Cranwell with a visit from their Royal Highnesses, the
Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince William. We'll be behind
the scenes as the base gets ready for this important visit to mark the 90th
anniversary of the RAF.

We'll be on the promotion trail with the Tigers as we look at the crucial five
matches facing them as they push for a place in the Premier League. And as the
next stage of the round the world clipper yacht race draws near, we'll catch up
with the Look North viewer, who is joining the yacht at California. That’s all
on BBC One at half past six. I hope you can join me.

Election

Local elections are coming up. Look North will be covering the process in
detail in the following weeks with our Political Editor, Tim Iredale. Just so
you know though, there’s a full list of the candidates standing in the local
elections for Hull and North East Lincolnshire on our website at
bbc.co.uk/humber and more information about the elections in Lincolnshire on
bbc.co.uk/lincolnshire. There’s also extensive on-going coverage of the
election campaign on BBC Radio Humberside and Radio Lincolnshire and of course
on Look North too. The full results as they come in will be on your local radio
services and Look North will be broadcasting live throughout the night as well.
That’s on Thursday 1st May with all the information you need on radio, TV and
the web.

House Prices

I mentioned earlier in the week about the fall in house prices reported in the
news. I thought this was a really interesting and concise email from one of our
Levy Letter readers, so thanks go to James for sharing these thoughts with us.
He writes, “Hi Peter, All the "experts" who said houses wouldn't fall work for
companies that sell houses! House prices are not based on what houses are
worth, they are based on what people can borrow. Most people when they buy a
house borrow the maximum amount the bank will let them and then look for a
house at that price. They are competing with other people also borrowing the
maximum amount the bank will let them have and when banks are lending freely
the house prices shoot up. Guess what! Banks are not lending freely anymore!
Credit Crunch is here... Suddenly people now need old fashioned things called
deposits and the maximum loan size is dependent on their salary. The amount of
money the average first time buyer can borrow has dropped !
by MORE THAN a third. If the amount you can borrow drops by a third, guess
what happens to the price of a house... 2.5% in March? You ain't seen nothing
yet...” It’s all doom and gloom isn’t it? Well, thanks James for that.

Coffee

I like my coffee, but I’m not too sure about this! An apparent ‘gourmet’ coffee
has been blended from animal droppings. And what’s even harder to believe is
that it’s being sold in a London department store for £50 a cup! No thank you.
It’s supposed to me the most expensive coffee in the world. Well, that sounds
about right. An Asian bug eats the best and ripest coffee berries, the enzymes
in their stomach breaks down the flesh of the fruit, before they ‘expel’ the
bean. The beans are collected by plantation workers, who wash away the dung and
roast them. Er, I don’t think I’ll give it a go.

Take care,

Peter
