Hello and welcome to todays Levy Letter. Its the end of another week, I hope youve had a good one. If youve got anything planned for over the weekend, I hope it goes well, and I hope you can join me for Look North at half past six on BBC One tonight.
Coming up on the programme today, we'll be reporting from the prison where security was so lax that criminals were breaking in to supply inmates with drugs and mobile phones. A Policeman once dubbed a hero is jailed today after subjecting his partner to months of domestic abuse. Our reporter Phillip Norton will be joining us live from the HMS Iron Duke as the warship docks in its adopted city. We'll hear from campaigners in Lincolnshire who say this year's tax hike isn't fair on residents. And ahead of Hull City's crunch game at the weekend, you've been putting your voices to a BBC Poem backing the Tigers. And of course well have the weekend forecast for you as usual. When will we see some consistent warm weather? I cant answer that unfortunately, Im not sure if Paul can either, but fingers crossed. Thank you for all your responses yesterday on the teaching strike and our other stories. We had lots of comments from parents, teachers, and students. We look at them all and so many of our stories come from information you send in, so thank you and keep it up! You can always send your stories or anything else you think we should know about to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Observatory A new observatory has opened in Northumberland this week, and theres a special reason they decided to place it there. I didnt know this, but the area is well known for having the darkest skies in England due to the lowest amount of light pollution. It doesnt take a genius to work out that less light pollution means more visibility for telescopes and star gazers, even I can work that out. The Kielder observatory will offer astronomers clear, unpolluted views of the stars and if youre a professional or amateur astronomer, or even just interested, the site will be available for public viewing. That sounds like a good idea, and I wonder how dark it is in the darkest part of England? Out of the Blue Well if youre a fan of Australian soap operas, and weve had a few on the television over the years, youll be excited to hear the BBCs commissioned a new series on BBC One. It starts on Monday, and its called Out of the Blue. I dont know what it is about these sun drenched soap operas featuring glamorous actors leading exciting lives that makes us want to watch them. Actually I think its pretty obvious why theyre popular, isnt it? Rather than buy in an existing soap from down under, the BBC has decided to start a new one, and it sounds a little different to Neighbours. The show will follow the lives of a group of 30-somethings who get together for a school reunion only to have the event sullied by a murder, and one of the friends must be the killer. Apparently even the cast dont know who the murderer is yet. If youre a fan of murder mysteries and Australian soaps yes it does seem a strange combination then that starts on Monday on BBC One at 14.15. I dont think Ill get much chance to watch it, but if you do then let me know what you think. Who knows, it could feature the Kylie Minogue or Jason Donovan of the future. That statement will probably either draw you in or put you off Thats it for me for this week, I hope you can join me tonight at half past six on BBC One.
