Hi there, it’s Peter here. Welcome to Friday’s Levy Letter. The weekend is here
at last. We’ve got a new look Look North on Monday! So tune in from lunchtime
on Monday and let us know what you think.

On tonight's programme, find out why East Riding Council are using new tactics
to try and get school children to eat healthily. We'll get the views of one top
chef about what can be done to keep kids away from the chip shop in their lunch
break.

Plus see how police in Lincolnshire are trying to prevent anti social behaviour
by encouraging teenage bikers to show off their skills in a safe environment.

They've got three games left and three chances to push for promotion to the
Premier League - we'll have a preview of Hull City's game against Sheffield
Untied at the weekend.

Plus we'll be with the Lincoln Ladies football team ahead of their big match
this weekend as they push for promotion too.

And we'll have a special report on Hull Truck Theatre as the acclaimed company
prepares for their big move later this year to a brand new venue. That
exclusive report all on tonight’s Look North at half past six. I hope you can
join me then.

And just a reminder as well that it’s the Lord Mayor’s Parade coming up. On the
3rd of May, myself and BBC Radio Humberside’s Lara King will be out on the
streets of Hull. So put a note in your diary for that one. It’s always a fun
day, so hope to see you there.

Weather

A lovely email here, which I thought I’d share with you! “Good afternoon Peter,
On today’s lunchtime weather forecast, I was delighted to hear Paul use that
old northern word "nithering" to describe the weather. But when I checked in my
dictionaries, including the famed Encarta, I could find no mention of the word.
Any idea of the word's origins? Obviously it's a local word, but I wonder how
widely it's used and known? Perhaps Paul could enlighten us? Love the show.
Adrian” So thanks Adrian for getting in touch. And it is a lovely expression
and very much a Yorkshire word I’d imagine! So there’s something to think about
over the weekend. Ask your friends if they know where the word “nithering” came
from and then get in touch and let me know! Plus are there any other local
words that you think are very specific to our region? I know that ‘snicket’ is
used around here, especially in Lincolnshire I think, meaning alleyway. Are
there any others? Get in touch, I’d love to hear fr!
 om you.

Pong

And what do you reckon to this? I couldn’t believe it when I heard it. There’s
a foul smell hanging over the south of England at the moment and it’s being
blamed on easterly winds brining over farming and industrial smells from across
the Channel. The Met Office have had lots of calls about it apparently – not
sure what they can do about it!! According to the weather forecasters, our
winds are normally westerly, coming off the Atlantic Ocean, so they obviously
don’t often bring any smells or pollution with them. At the moment, the UK’s
winds are easterly and are bringing smells over from near Holland, Germany and
Belgium. Researchers though are trying to pinpoint the cause more accurately.
So we should think ourselves lucky that we’re not living down south at the
moment!

Take care and have a lovely weekend,

Peter
