Good afternoon and welcome to Thursday’s Levy Letter. This week is going fast
isn’t it? I could get used to a four day week!

We got a huge response last night from you after the programme. Thank you so
much to everyone, who got in touch with us, whether on the text, answer phones
or on email. Although there were so many messages from you all, between us in
the newsroom, we’ve read every one, so thank you very much indeed. Comments
were coming in about the case of the dropped sausage roll and also about the
silencing of Beverley’s bells!

About these bells, this is just a selection of your comments and unusually, I
thought, messages about this didn’t just come from concerned residents of
Beverley, although there were many of messages from Beverlonians, but there
were quite a few messages from people living outside of Beverley too, who were
concerned about the bells being silenced. Dave from Woodhall Spa texted in to
say, “If you move near a church you should expect bells! Don’t complain
afterwards if you didn’t know!” And Tony from Hornsea wrote, “The Minster has
been there for centuries, surely the people who have complained about it must
have seen it before they moved into the area.” One anonymous one from a
Beverlonian left a message for us to say, “He shouldn’t really have bought a
house next door to Beverley Minster. If he moves to get away from the bells,
then I suggest he doesn’t move to near Bridlington or whatever, because maybe
the sea would bother him. I live within the sound of the Beverley Minste!
r bells and I love them.” And I have to say that I’ve found it very difficult
to find a message from you saying that you’d like to hear them stopped. There’s
just one message here on our Lincoln hotline from an anonymous caller to say,
“Can’t they come to some sort of arrangement like Lincoln Cathedral. They go
off at night and there’s no problem there.” So thanks for your messages about
Beverley’s bells and the petition to silence them during the night. If you
think they should be silenced, because they’re keep you awake at night, then do
get in touch with me to put your point across!

And our other story last night that attracted the most amount of response from
you was of course the sausage roll saga where a mother from Hull walked free
from court after Magistrates threw out the case against her for allegedly
dropping a chunk of sausage roll on the ground. Peter from Bridlington left a
message for us, “Some things can be taken a little bit too far and the council
needs to address more important issues like crime in the city.” Sean from Hull
thinks though, “What about the council when they’re collecting waste on a
weekly basis. They tend to leave half the litter scattered all over the
pavement. So if anybody is supposed to be prosecuted, then why not themselves?”
And then finally Peter from Grimsby texted in to say, “Fly tipping is rampant
in Grimsby. Any measures to prosecute tippers and litter louts is to be
welcomed.” So there you go, lots of messages from you last night and we greatly
appreciate all of them. Thanks for getting in touch and of course i!
f you want to comment about anything we do in the Letter or on the programme,
then get in touch with me on the usual address of [EMAIL PROTECTED] I look
forward to hearing from you.

Strictly

The Autumn season of TV shows is heading our way fast and I read today who will
be in the line-up for the new series of the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing. It’s a
surprising hit isn’t it that show? The latest people preparing to strut their
stuff on the dance floor will be singers, Rachel Stevens from S Club 7 and
Heather Small from M People. Former EastEnders actors, Gillian Taylforth,
Jessie Wallace and Phil Daniels will be putting down the scripts and putting on
the dancing shoes. And Christine Bleakely from the One Show and GMTV presenter,
Andrew Castle, will also be joining them. It’s so brave of them to have a go at
that I always think. So good luck to them. The new series starts on BBC One in
the middle of September, so look out for that.

Well, that's it from me in this Letter. Just a quick plug for the Hull and
District Scooter club, who emailed in. They have said that there’ll be a
scooter rally at the Hull Ionians rugby ground in Elloughton this weekend. So
if you’re going along to that with your scooter, then enjoy!

Take care,

Peter
