Hello there. It’s Peter here. Welcome to the midweek edition of the Levy
Letter. I hope you didn’t get caught out by the icy roads and paths. I did see
people walking very carefully into town this morning trying not to slip up!

James Bond Motor

Have you ever fancied owning a piece of James Bond memorabilia? Well how about
the Lotus from the ‘The Spy who Loved Me’. Well one lucky buyer has managed to
bag himself the white 1976 Lotus Esprit for a cool £111,500. The private
collector from the US was bidding over the telephone at the Bonhams’ sale. The
buyer described himself as a James Bond and Lotus fan and said the car would be
going to Atlanta, Georgia. It is one of two Lotus cars, which was driven by
Roger Moore, which ended up in the sea during a chase. Well there you go. I
suppose the credit crunch isn’t hitting everyone as hard!

Rock-a-bye Baby

I’ve been reading today that mothers are ditching traditional lullabies for
popular rock and pop songs. A poll of 2,000 mothers found that nearly
two-thirds thought pop ballads could be better for getting babies to sleep
rather that lullabies. The Baby Website, which carried out the research, said
it was surprised with the findings. Spokeswoman Kathryn Crawford said, “we were
really surprised to find that mums would rather sing modern pop tunes than
traditional lullabies. I expect most mums put the radio on when at home with
the baby and the catchy lyrics make it impossible to sing anything else at
bedtime.” Take That were top of the bedtime pops with ‘Patience’ and Robbie
Williams came second with ‘Angels’. Oasis also appeared in the top ten with
‘Wonderwall’ and even Guns N’ Roses made an appearance with ‘Sweet Child O’
Mine’. The survey also revealed that 13% of mothers thought lullabies were old
fashioned and one in 10 said they could not remember the words to any of the!
 m. However half of mothers said they sang to their babies when they were
upset, and a third always lulled their baby to sleep with a song. Well what do
you think to this one? Do you, or did you, sing lullabies to your little one?
Or do you prefer something a little more contemporary. I’d love to hear your
thoughts on this one or anything else which may be on your mind. Contact me on

The Adder and O’Grady

I’ve been reading today that chat show host Paul O’Grady has suffered a bite on
his arm after being bitten by an adder. The 53 year old fended off the two foot
reptile with a broom after it slithered out of firewood. Paul told the Daily
Mirror that he saw two puncture marks on his arm which had blood gushing out of
it. He told the paper, “I didn’t realise I was bitten at first but I looked at
my right arm and there was blood gushing down from it. It really started to
hurt and then I saw a snake on the logs.” He called his local hospital when he
realised he had been bitten by the venomous snake but was told the injury would
not be fatal. Luckily it did not prevent him from presenting his TV show.

That’s it from the letter today. I hope you will join me for Look North tonight
at 6.30pm on BBC One.

Take care,

Peter
