Regarding linking to other certification organizations...

This has already had considerable discussion over the past 24 hours, so
I'll try and keep it brief.

A few people have suggested partnerships (or is that the more buzzword
compliant 'Partnerships'?) between LPI and other organisations. I gather
a few people aren't all that keen on any kind of formal arrangement.

One possible solution might be to have LPI running the whole thing (as
they do now with the admin exams), but to be very active in seeking
assistance from members of the community surrounding the project being
tested. LPI could (if they like) throw a couple of RFCs out to those
communities to see whether or not people would find it valuable and
whether or not people would assist in the writing of objectives and
questions.

LPI could manage the whole thing to make sure that the exams
are of the same quality as the admin exams, but wouldn't have to worry
as much about the specific technical content.

That is quite close to our intent, and we have tried things similar, but the way we'll do that from now on is by sharing our exam development tool. This tool allows others to mimic our community-based psychometric process. The tool is going through major revisions right now, and should be incorporating expertise from at least two other organizations/companies who have an interest in what we do.

There are hundreds of random professional organizations that will benefit from an OS tool like this, and thousands of universities that could create better testing for their students.

The tool won't do all the work we do, but it will let us do the work more efficiently (with what I hope is a much clearer volunteer interface)!

I'm guessing that LPI would need some confidence that it wasn't just a
flash-in-the-pan thing and that there would be some kind of ongoing
development of exam content.

That we have. Indeed! :-)

thx,
Matt
