Let them CIW have a "LAMP" cert until LPI could fill in all the holes and then announce an LPI LAMP cert? It could piss CIW off.
I don't think LPI's reputation would be enhanced by partnering with someone then usurping that space with it's own test. My preferrence would be to create our own tests with community support. Partnering should create some sort of synergy and not just create a stop gap measure. A partnership with the CIW people would not really create any value. A partnership with the Perl community (for example) and someone like ActiveState (for example) would because we would be creating a new value added service.
I'm taking the long-term view that even if it takes a year or two to launch a full LPI-lead LAMP cert, so be it. Launch what we can do, as we do it. Even with 2 years, we'd still be certifying Perl6 people before Perl6 came out <muahahaha>.
So, until then, CIW's existing Perl 5 exam could fit the bill.
For my conversations the Perl community doesn't seem to be impressed with any existing programs. The message to me was they wanted something new and credible to the community.
I'm in favor of an approach that builds community interest, works with existing bodies in those communities, leverages partnerships to create value and not just a stop gap, and has solid community support and credibility.
TO build community cred we need to work on a consensus and not just present them with a fait accompli.
