i agree, but there must be a reason the university did this. have
they released some sort of statement?
Ernest, the last people you should ever side with are the Makerere
University academicians. Of course they have a reason for doing it
but even the manner they handle the situation is so insensitive.
Where in the world does a leader just wake up and announce a 3000%
hike in a fee without preparing the recepients for the change?
What do you mean by "preparing the recepients for the change"? I
thought (according to Noah) that the University was engaged in
numerous meetings with the students' guild for a while (well, the
meetings never yielded anything - yes, but at least, they were done).
One thing to consider here is that the Uganda government reduced the
funding it was according MUK very seriously. Looking at the ever
increasing number of students, it can be a very tedious and expensive
exercise for lectures to prepare, conduct, mark and finally grade the
supplementary examinations.
I suspect that MUK increased these fees only to "break-even", and not
to make money off students.
Have these professors ever internalised the management theories
they study? I believe they are just cold, insensitive, non
innovative and socially challenged beings.
Wire, this is a very unfair comment. :-)
(I agree with you though, that a few of these guys fall in some
categories above ;-) )
The few people that have always tried to introduce new styles of
management in that institution have been witch hunted. Look at
Prof. Balunywa of MUBS and Dr. Baryamureeba of Computer Science,
these guys are outcasts because of their innovativeness and pro
people management approaches
First of all, Balunywa is not a Professor :-) He does not even have a
Ph.D. I guess the other dons are unhappy with the fact that he made it
this high without the qualifications befitting a head of a business
school.
Secondly, Balunywa is not looking at the benefitting students
academically either. He is also looking at the profit side. Just look
at MUBS - ask the BBA/Bcom/MBA students, especially those that are
enriolled for evening, afternoon, morning and weekend programmes, they
will tell you they are at MUBS for the sake of having a degree, but
the teaching and academic benefits are null.
Its so sad to be taught by such sick people.
I do agree with you here. Its is sickening that our academic system
has gone to the dogs, thanks to Museveni and his rotten ideas.
