Astonishingly, I was just able to print a functional carrier in PLA on a Creality CR-10S. (A very common home $400 fdm printer from a year ago.)
I got the printer last year but only opened the box a couple days ago and this is only my 3rd attempt to print anything at all. The carrier looked like crap on the print bed, but after a little manual clean-up, it turned out to actually work! So, these things can be printed at home after all.
