Quite honestly I personally think the simplest thing would be to get an ADSL
Router. That way you avoid the whole USB thing (which is always a bit dodgy
with systems without USB on the mainboard), and you gain all the benefits of
a router simple ethernet connection, internet sharing between multiple
systems, hardware firewall etc etc. You can get routers for upwards of 40
or so.

If you want to persist with the USB Modem, then in my view getting a new USB
card won't fix or change the problem. I'm pretty sure it's a software thing
(I've seen this before) and the only way to fix it is probably to upgrade to
OS9.2.x. That way you get a far later version of the USB part of the OS
which finally fixed things with USB PCI cards.

I am running OS9.0.

If I installed OSX from the eMac disks, I think it will only do a clean
install, so I will have to back up and re-setup everything. Its an option.

I found an Apple article that says I need extra software from the card
manufacturer if I get that error message.

Problem is the Portgear card is made by Xircon who was bought up by Intel in
2001. I will continue searching.

The easiest may be to buy a new USB card. But which one works with the
Speedtouch?
