Dear All, Good news.
I managed to connect to the USB modem! I unplugged the pci USB card to read the manufacturer's data to get downloads. I plugged it back in, and reinstalled Apple USB Support 1.4.1. When I plugged the modem in, all the lights went green. Thanks for all your help. I will still choose a router soon.
