Cable goes out Phones go out. From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of John Robinson Sent: Thursday, July 11, 2013 8:34 AM To: Topics related to Apple and Macintosh computers Subject: Re: [MacGroup] Time Warner Speed Issues and 911
James, To follow up on this, all the discussion on this list about the good and bad between AT&T and Insight are really mute conversations, we ALL are going to have to go to TWC for landline phones in the not too distant future no matter our preference. So, what will AT&T be doing with all their employees? Will they still be required to maintain the infrastructure so the cable guys will have a pole to hang their wire? When there is a storm that takes out their lines (that then will go to nowhere for AT&T) will they be required to do the repairs? How will their revenue stream be replaced, the little old ladies that depend on the (current) 5.06% dividend, will that be greatly reduced? WOW, lots to think about. We still have POTS at home as well as our cell phones. I would not go to Insight to TWC for phone service. Richard, It is a company called SamKnows. They sent me a letter and asked if I wanted to participate for free. It appears from their site that anyone can sing up for it: http://www.samknows.com<http://www.samknows.com/> I do not know if they charge others for it, but I know they don't charge me. They send you a box that you install between your internet service and your router. It appears to be a small wireless router that is re-flashed with their own monitoring software. It was simple (for me) to install and those monthly reports are a comfort knowing exactly what my service has been without going to the speed testing sites every few hours all month (which, of course, is not really doable). As to the phone stuff, I actually like my Insight phone line better than the third party service that I got for my second (business) line. Features, price and call quality are all better. j. -- Jonathan Fletcher FileMaker 9/10/11/12 Certified Developer Fletcher Data Consulting [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> http://www.fletcherdata.com<http://www.fletcherdata.com/> 502-509-7137 Personal miscellany online at http://jfletch.posthaven.com<http://jfletch.posthaven.com/> Kentuckiana's FileMaker Developers Group Next meeting: FileMaker<=>QuickBooks Tuesday, July 23rd, noon to 3:30-ish http://www.kyfmp.com<http://www.kyfmp.com/> -- Jonathan Fletcher FileMaker 9/10/11/12 Certified Developer Fletcher Data Consulting [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> http://www.fletcherdata.com<http://www.fletcherdata.com/> 502-509-7137 Personal miscellany online at http://jfletch.posthaven.com<http://jfletch.posthaven.com/> Kentuckiana's FileMaker Developers Group Next meeting: FileMaker<=>QuickBooks Tuesday, July 23rd, noon to 3:30-ish http://www.kyfmp.com<http://www.kyfmp.com/> _______________________________________________ MacGroup mailing list [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> http://www.math.louisville.edu/mailman/listinfo/macgroup _______________________________________________ MacGroup mailing list [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> http://www.math.louisville.edu/mailman/listinfo/macgroup ________________________________ If you are not the intended addressee indicated in this message (or responsible for delivery of the message to such person), you may not copy or deliver this message to anyone.
