I am not sure I understand why you can't use the new extreme with the U verse 
router.  You plug it into there the AT&T router and either do not use there 
Wifi or ask them to bridge it out. That is what I did with the TW system and my 
daughter has her home on U verse and uses the new Airport Extreme. I have my 
two older airport Extreme N on the same network and an express in the garage.
