Dan,

With U-verse you have to use their modem router combo, can't use Apple.  I 
didn't know this when I tried to sign up, it would have been a deal breaker for 
me had I know as I had great coverage and even better now that the new Airport 
Extremes are out, plus if you needed a boost you could always get an Express 
and configure it somewhere in the house as a booster to the Extreme signal.   
There may be some 3rd party boosters you can use with the U-verse box.
