Mac-nificent Ones, I, like John, have both TimeWarner and UVerse. I have a router that aggregates them both for (presumably) more speed and reliability. And pretty much that is what I get. They both have made mistakes with my orders, but patiently and firmly I kept after them and finally I have it just the way I want.
A couple weeks ago, a rep from AT&T called and asked how my service was and I said overall I was satisfied after the order snafus got fixed, but then I told her I thought their upload speeds, um, "inhaled sharply," compared to the level I have with TWC. She said she couldn't do anything about that but would I like free digital channels for a year? I said, sure. Insight also gave me discounts when I asked for them. Just tell them you would get a better deal from AT&T. They all know that a retained customer is far more profitable than a lost customer or the cost to get a new one, so they will usually find some way to make you happy if you ask nicely. Insight's department for such things was interestingly called "retention." I don't know what TWC calls it, but I am sure it is a concept that is firmly a part of both company's customer relations effort. Just remember to tell them what you like about their service before you say "but it sure would be nice if it didn't cost so much," or "I really could use the faster speed but I'm running out of spare body parts to send you every month."
