I understand where you are coming from.  Mailplane 3 was a complete new
build, thus the reasoning for the new license.  We did support Mailplane 2
fully for 3 years past releasing version 3; which is beyond what I was
expecting, to be honest.   We do offer free licenses to people who
purchased Mailplane 2 within a few months of Mailplane 3's release (Oct.
2012).   This allows us to keep developing and growing the app.  It simply
wouldn't be possible to continue to support Mailplane at all if we offered
every version for free.  (Keep in mind that every update within the version
is free.  So Mailplane 3.1.4 to Mailplane 3.2 and so on is free but
Mailplane 2.5 to 3.xx is a new license)

Despite the Google changes we are currently dealing with, Mailplane 2 was
beginning to lose a lot of functionality due to Apple stopping support to
the older OS Xs.  We were having issues with OS Xs right up to 10.7 already
and compatibility with newer OS Xs wasn't guaranteed either.
