Is there any evidence that the Hamas leadership ordered the systematic abuse and murder of civilians? I haven't seen such. Hamas could be properly be described as a terrorist organization when it organized attacks on Israeli civilians during the second intifada. The suicide bombings on buses, in restaurants, entrertainment venues and other public places testified to the desperation felt by its young women and male "martyrs" at the ongoing oppression of the Palestinians. However, when Hamas replaced Fatah as the governing authority Gaza, its tactics necessarily changed in accordance with its new role and it acted more as a quasi-state/resistance movement with civic as well as military responsibilities similar to Hezbollah. That's why ii's now more widely respected as leader of the Palestinian resistance than when it was a terrorist faction with it. To draw the distinction is not to endorse its Islamist ideology and the reactionary trappings which goes with it, which is what I believe Michael P. means when he says he gives it military but not political support. BTW, Michael P. or anyone: Is the RCIT a descendent of the Spartacist League and International Bolshevik Tendency?
