Marv, I think it is very secondary if a "policy" of targeting civilians is documented whatsoever. The fact is they do, both up front and personal, such as taking hostages, and using thousands of missiles to hit cities. What kind of strategy is this? I've been opposed to Hamas and other groups use of unguided munitions since they started doing this. I arrive at this for several reasons. Like my opposition to terrorism from a Marxist perspective, it leaves the "struggle" in the hand of militants and doesn't involve the masses of those oppressed. It makes an enemy out of the entire population of Israel, including its poorest members (not unlike the terrorism of using bombings of buses in West Jerusalem). What exactly is achieved in this way? Given the dozens of IDF military outposts near Gaza, have they EVER targeted them? Have they ever tried to hit the IDF itself? And how many thousands of Gazans have died before Oct. 7 due to totally expected Israeli retaliation? Does Hamas even care? Do they take this into account and simply do the calculations...like 30,000+ dead Gazans due to the Oct. 7 attacks. What part of national liberation does this fit into exactly? No wonder there were mass demonstrations against Hamas by Gazan over the years.
