Hi, this is my first message to this site and finally someone has asked a
question that I am totally interested in. I have just purchased a 1600 with
a very stock L16. My problem is I have converted down from a Lancer GSR
4WD Turbo. Hence an L16 just won't do as you may well know. If you manage
to find any info on increasing power from a stock L16 please pass it on .
Money for the moment is fairly tight in that I haven't got the money for a
turbo upgrade.

If I where you, I wouldn't bother spending much on the L16 at all. Though
if you can get your hands on a cheap 5 speed you'll get a slightly quicker
car due to better spread of gear ratios.
I'd spend most of the initial cash on suspension, brakes, wheels and
tyres, (in that order). Make your car handle and stop, and you'll have
just as much fun wasting cars with 3 times the power through the twisty
bits. Doing this also prepares your car for an engine upgrade in the future.
