Zac,
I'm not sure what the specs are for the 240K, the 200B has 13/16" rwc. I'm sure
that the larger m/cyl just doesn't work as expected on the 1600. On my very
first 510, in 1972 i fitted a 180B Dual M/cyl and booster that was a PBR and it
was awful on the 1600, but the same system on a 180B felt OK. I was too young to
analyse why, when i enquired I was told that they were crap and put the japanese
Tokico or Nabco 3/4" cylinders off the imported 180B. I did this then and have
used the same cylinders on many 1600's and this system has worked with 240K/200B
etc. fronts and disc on the back.

I upgraded the current 1600 from stock to 200B fronts and then drums (7/8" rwc)
to R31 rears discs at different times and the pedal didn't change at any stage
during the upgrades. I thought it may have been a bit funny with the rear disc
upgrade but it never happened, I'm a bit surprised there are so many of us with
"crappy brakes" as the subject suggests, there must be something fundamentally
wrong with some component that is being used of the donor car.

This probably has nothing to do with a soft pedal but something i have seen done
badly over a long time is the fitting of the rod from the pedal to the 180B
bendix booster. This rod should be absolutely horizontal which means the 1600
pedal has to be redrilled about 15 mm lower down. If the rod is distorted
upwards to fit into the original hole i might affect the feel of the pedal but
i'm not sure.

On pedal height, i prefer the 1600 brake pedal to be slightly higher 3/8" - 1/2"
than the clutch. The brake pedal is adjustable by a combination of the bumper on
the pedal box and the length of the rod from the booster. If you adjust these
components you must (with a friend) check that the front discs don't clamp more
than spec.

It's getting late and the Ferrari is going to win again? F1 in the wet is only
slightly more entertaining than the dry,.

regards
Terry
