Paddy,
Why the L16? I agree that it is nice to use the original L-series motor(as
that is a large part of the character of the 1600 car) but the L20B block
would give you a bunch more off-boost torque, helping driveability and
allowing a proportionately bigger turbo to raise top-end power whilst
retaining good bottom end.
Vizard I think went into detail of an LPG turbo setup, it seems ideal with
high octane rating, allows blow-thru with intercooling and cheap to run. I
think he even mentioned light nitrous assistance in a full throttle flooring
situation to spool the turbo up more quickly, as an option.
Also with a turbo, multi-valve multi-cam breathing isn't a significant
advantage as the turbo will force the mixture in as well through the old 1
intake valve per cylinder set-up. Also the L-series has the intake and
exhaust on the same side, very compact for turbo application.
I like the idea of an L20B turbo, LPG intercooled. The L-series are
attractive engines to look at, so cleanly designed, simple, durable and dead
simple to work on.
Denzil Palmer's 2c worth.
