Zac,
The cam in my L20 turbo works well.It has a bit of a lump at idle and really
kicks in with the turbo at around 3000-3500 revs and goes strong to 7000rpm with
the twin 45mm carbs. With the single 45mm carb it was dead by 6000rpm.Cant wait
to try it out with the new turbo.Under 3000 it's much like any other camed L20
just with a little less compression. It will happily plod around town under
3000rpm.The standard cams work ok but you dont see to many car manufactures
using the same cam in there N/A and turbo versions of the same motor.Another
milder cam I've tried is the 733A which has 270 duration,114 lobe seperation and
320 lobe lift which is a good street cam for a smallish turbo.I would suggest
Wade Cams in Victoria as they have been doing turbo grinds for years and have
been involved with a lot of the top turbo race cars over the years.I cant think
of the guys name over there(Errol will know) but he's very helpfull. They only
cost about $70 exchange.Remember you'll have to measure up for thicker lash pads
and something like Crow valve springs.Wade do heaps of grinds to suit whatever
your after. The only other turbo cam grinder I would recomend would be Ivan
Tighe. Wade also do billet cams but at a cost. The only reason I use such a large
cam is that I intend to push an L series motor to the limits over the next few
years.I'm currently building an L18 long rod motor with forged pistons and
custom manifolds to suit efi and a 500HP plus turbo but this is a long term
project as funds are low.
