James.
Here is what I know about extractors and the pro's and con's of them.
My mate has sspent years building race engines (honda ones unfortunatly)
And this is what he told me.
Extractors can give you either more responsive engine - More revvie
Or they can give you more torque - loosing your responsiveness.
(great for towing though)
I took some I bought of some one a while ago and he measured them up and he was sure
they would actually rob my 1600 wagon of responsiveness as they were designed for
torque.
Hense the reason they are not on the car or will ever be on it.
He also has had a little experiance with Datto's and he was quite adament that on a
stock L series the factory manifold with a decent 2 inch system would be quite a good
thing.
As my wagon is stock I won't be bolting any extractors on my wagon until she needs a
rebuild.
Then I will be doing a bit of headwork to her with a nice cam and some heavy duty
springs.
I also have a genuine 1971 1600SSS 4 door and the factory extractors are totally
different in design to the ones I bought for my wagon.
So I guess I will be taking the SSS in with me when the wagons engine is rebuilt so
they can copy Mr Datsuns extractor design.
Maybee Terry or Errol can elaborate more on the pro's and cons of extractors but I
wouldn't be rushing out to buy the first pair I found as they might not be such a good
thing.
Any how take it easy.
P.S Take your car in to a retuable tuner you will be amased what a little tuning can
do for performance.
I know as I have spent months tinkering with my wagon and on a cold morning WOW I LOVE
IT!!
Later.
