Adam, If this is a genuine SR starter then they have a couple of L shaped copper tab contacts in the solenoid that wear out. The solenoid setup is a bit different to L starters i.e. the solenoid has a steel ring in the end of it and when you hit the start switch this ring makes contact across these tabs in a fairly violent manner. Over time they get a grove worn in them and they wont carry the amps to fire the starter. Most auto electricians will have replacement tabs, usually better quality than OEM and they are fairly easy to fit.
