It has a lever and slide contacts in the 'ballery' (what they call it in the
manual)/solenoid. I tested the resistance on the solenoid when pushing the
pin back and got a reading of 0, so that seems to be fine. Why wouldn't the
starter motor crank at all, it's getting power from the solenoid when the
gear is pushed forwards and is earthed to the engine. I put the motor back
together and it cranks when hooked up directly to the motor, pin pushes
forwards when supplied with power. But as soon as i put it back in the car
the starter won't turn, but i can hear the pin pushing forwards. Apart from
the starter being stuffed, i can't think of a reason why it is playing up

One thing i ahve noticed is that the starter motor doesn't spin as quickly
as other starters that i've hooked directly upto a battery to test. Maybe
that's a tell tale sign the starter is stuffed??

cheers,
Adam

ps - yes ti is a Hitachi OEM.
