hi, the on of type oil sender, would say for arguments sake , have a disc which rests on two contacts, and when the engine starts, the oil pressure pushes the disc away from the two contacts , and there fore switching the light off.
the needle type gauge sender unit , would have a variable type resister setup in side, i suppose something like a fuel gauge setup , where a arm rubs along some resistance wire and gives a reading proportional to the oil pressure . this is a basic descripyion for the land lubber....... mark k ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rick White" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Monday, November 04, 2002 10:04 PM Subject: Re: smaller oil filter > Malcom. > Well then it is in Lb's then. > Thanks for solving that. > Was gonna check today, kinda forgot though. > But if one sender is a on/off switch for the idiot light. > And one sender is a variable earth and moves the guage. > How can they be the same??? > Please let me know how this can work. > Or have we got our wires crossed? > Are you saying the SSS (only) has one sender, that is also the same as the > L28, and the stock (not SSS's) have a different one? > I hope so. > Otherwise the one in my wagon that works there, which wouldn't work in my > SSS is dodgy. > They are deffinatly different is size though, the new one in my SSS is huge. > Later. > Rick White. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "maldat" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Sent: Monday, November 04, 2002 2:07 PM > Subject: Re: smaller oil filter > > > > if your 510SSS speedo is in Kms the oil will be Kpa > > If its in Miles the oil will be Lb's > > > > The oil sender for the 510SSS is the same right thru L28 is also the same > > > > > > Malcolm > > ----- Original Message ----- > > From: "Rick White" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > Sent: Monday, November 04, 2002 12:55 AM > > Subject: Re: smaller oil filter > > > > > > > Chris. > > > Thanks for letting me know how it works. > > > As I said. > > > I really don't know the nitty gritty in how it works. > > > Now I do. > > > :O) > > > And yes the sender I got for my SSS was like $80.00, but it was the > right > > one for the age of the car. > > > My hassles was it was, don't quote me Pounds where todays ones are KPA. > > > It may be the other way around.I just checked my SSS 200b Coupes dash > that > > is sitting on my front lawn, and that one in in KG/Cm2. > > > My 510 SSS is a few suberbs away, I will go and check exactly what the > > guage specifies later this week. > > > > > > Later. > > > Rick White. > > > > > > --- "Chris Simpson" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > >I agree an electric guage is the only way to go, they cost about $50 or > > so > > > >for the guage and everything that you need. > > > > > > > >Just a small point Rick, the sender doesnt send a current to the guage, > > the > > > >sender is simply an variable earth, the same as a temp guage.
