When it comes to increasing performance the sss cam is only one step above a
standard cam and there are many other steps to go after that.Rpm is only
part of the formula for making hp.Ive seen stock sss motors reving to 7500
but does that make them powerful? NO. To get some decent power from an L
series we need a few basic things. We need a decent flowing head(ported),a
good big duration big lift camshaft with a increase in compression to match
the camshaft and the fuel being used.We need to ignite the mixture at the
right time and we need to be able to allow the air in and out with minimal
restrictions with big carbies(twin 45's etc)and some extractors and a decent
flow exhaust. If any of these areas is lacking then so will the hp.As there
has been plenty of good hp L series combinations built up over the years a
lot of development work has already been done and by copying some of these
combinations good results can be had. Guys like errol smith has been playing
with these for years and knows what works and what doesnt.Mohit the cam
chart you have seems like it maybe overly advanced in its timing to me but
as ive never tried it i couldnt comment on its effectiveness. It may need to
be setup with a lot of compression but i would talk to the supplier about
this. Most people in australia will tell you that the works grinds work quite
well like the 72.74 and 76 grinds.Valve springs are a must for the l series
and you may need to look at thicker lash pads depending on base circle of
the cam grind.
