Malcolm,
You must be using some very special spring, retainer and lash cap
combination to get those rpm. Mine have always flown apart over 9000
unless using ultra light retainers and lash caps. Usually the problem is
keeping the lash caps in the retainer, even when using springs giving
400 lb on the nose of the cam. Any more spring pressure than this and
most oils go into shear burning the stellite rocker pads and cam lobes.

Another problem is cam timing scatter from chain whip at very high
speeds. I have a fix for this now, although it still will not let me go
over 9000 on my 1600 race engine.

"I HAVE NEVER DRIVEN MY 510 WITH A 5 SPEED ONLY STOCK 510sss 4 SPEED.
But i do have a 5 speed thats the same ratio as the 4 speed ,that will
be
going init,,where 5th is .86 overdrive.

I allways found it good till over 8000-10000Rpm in 1,2,3 gears..I used a
rev
counter that goes up to 10 ,I found that once I got it to 10 and push it
further the rev counter would shag around..

I never found it to lose torque but ,,the carbs and dizzy are also far
from
stock Just seamed to run out of gas in fourth gear..
