I was going to flam this but I've decided to answer correctly.

I was taught that seat position is determined by following two sequential steps:

1. Adjust seat travel to the rear where when depressing the either the clutch pedal or gas pedal completely your knee should bend no more than 75 to 80 degrees (your knees should never lock when depressing a pedal). Adjust to the longer reach.

2. After travel is adjusted set the seat recline so that the bottom of your wrists land at the 12 o-oclock position on top of the wheel without your elbows bent at 75 to 80 degrees (your elbows should never lock when turning the wheel).

With the seat adjusted in this manner my seat winds up one click from the rear position and the seatback reclined to be flush against the bulkhead. And this is with the seat back foam removed from my seat as well as about half of the seat bottom foam removed as well. With stock foam in the seat my head would rub against the top.

When you are 6'4" every inch counts in a Miata. For a more accurate description of what 6'4" is - I have a 36" inseam and wear a 36" shirt.

Well since I don’t really consider driving with the seat fully reclined in a ghetto driving position to be proper driving posture I guess I never considered this as restricting the travel of the seat.
