I am not sure what Bill specifically means by rattle traps...any car 
that old seems to develop lots of things that need to be tightened up or 
replaced.  I consider all of my Mazdas rattle traps at this point...1990 
& 1994 Miatas and 1993 RX-7...

A good friend of mine is a 2nd gen guru.  He put a Turbo-II driveline in 
his 'vert.  Very nice.  That is how that car should have been equipped 
from the factory (the extra weight for the bracing makes the N/A version 
less entertaining than a non-convertible with the same motor).

It's no Miata in terms of overall weight but it is plenty zippy, handles 
similarly to a Miata (having driven a FC track car) and a bit roomier in 
the cabin.
