my issue is with government recognition of a religious establishment.

and that's what we have.

there are rights associated with religious marriage that are "given" by
the government to those select people - as if government legitimately has the
power to "give" rights to any individual or group. It flys in the face of
the constitution.

and this is where the civil libertarian rises up in me

the government has recognized "CORPORATIONS" as people. they are a legal
fiction. and indeed under our government, the COPORATIONS have more rights
than individuals. This is the basis for a lot of the problems we have
today.

Religion and Government don't mix, it's very true. However, it is more
true today, with so many different religions, and the great awakening that
Religion is man-made fiction, than it was in the early days of our society,
when the majority were sure God would roast them if they were not subservient
to His better judgement. The constitution, still a pretty good document,
states that the Government shall not establish a state religion, yet
Christianity in various forms has been cross-bowed into our society from
nearly
every President and every Congress that has ever been eleceted. Why?
Because the morons think WE, the People, want that stuff. I don't want it. I
want to see people grow into better people WITHOUT the threat of eternal
damnation, WITHOUT the need to ask forgiveness of God, WITHOUT the option to
be forgiven for sins by a "Heavenly Presence", particularly one that has
chosen to remain annonymous in the face of great misfortune, disaster, and
War.
