ID, I would think that the "original soul" a "new soul" is created when a new life is born, that "energy of the mind" becomes the new soul. The mind is a very curious thing and I think it has retention quality which gives us experiences in life such as Deja vu, Premonitions, Dreams and such. If you think about it in that perspective you will understand what I'm thinking. I would speculate that the majority of the human race are new souls, considering the procreative rate and the immature behavior of the global masses. I'm not sure I understand your concept of "rejoining the creator", if in fact there is a creator, which for me never made sense because of the "creation of the creator" dilemma. I don't usually refer to reincarnation but view the "old soul" as a "re-entry", maintaining that quality of human form and not transitioning to animal.
