"I am the way and the truth and the life ..." etc. An extremely complex, religious answer, involving neo-platonic philosophy, Jewish religious history, different Jesus-traditions which had already existed for up to 70 years by the time he wrote, and a whole theology of divine incarnation, sacrifice and redemption.
