Then I would conclude that such a being is not God.

Freewill either exists or is an illusion.  If I agree that all things
come from God, and I do certianly agree to that, then I must also
agree that free will or the freedom of choice is a gift from God to
humanity.

Otherwise the concept of punisment for deeds that we have no control
over make no sense at all.

We are told that God made us in his image, what do you suppose is
meant by this?
We are told that God wants us to not blindly except but to question
and make use of our brains. What do you understand is meant by this?
