Word usage and meaning is not a static thing, Chris. The big boy or big girl pattern identifies you as not raised or reflected on ageism, sexism and hierarchical Macht (power, potency, force) dimensions in communication in general. You are fine in your local ecosystem with that. That's what it translates to me. I doubt your children will use it the old-school way you do.
