Ron, Nice post! I think you said this better than I. It does occur to me though that in the first century the Rabbis argued over the fine points of the written law. They thought their morality and virtue were determined by their strict adherence to the letter of the law. Jesus claimed that what was important was the spirit of the law, or if you will, the function that it served. He claimed that it was an understanding of the function of the law or the law written on a man's heart that mattered not the specific practices. In other words that the law should serve man not that man should serve the law. Of course most in people even into the modern era really just want someone to tell them what to do and really don't take this very seriously at all. Krimel
Ron: I think people in the modern era fall prey to a nationalized Christian faith. Few Christians that I personally have run into Seldom read, question or even discuss the Bible or morality. Interestingly enough Platt brought up a great point that has relevance to the political Situation faced today. Hitler nationalized Christianity at the Beginning of his reign. http://www.nobeliefs.com/Hitler1.htm But you bring up great points about the message of Jesus and I agree, Reification: Reification (fallacy), fallacy of treating an abstraction as if it were a real thing. Reification in Gestalt psychology, where an object is perceived as having more spatial information than is actually present in the original stimulus. Reification (knowledge representation), used to represent facts that must then be manipulated in some way. Reification (linguistics) in natural language processing, where a natural language statement is transformed so actions and events in it become quantifiable variables. Reification (Marxism) (German: Verdinglichung), the consideration of an abstraction or an object as if it had living existence and abilities; at the same time it implies the thingification of social relations. It is very difficult to see outside of cultural convention and realize Just what the message really is. To thine own heart/self be true. -thanks Moq_Discuss mailing list Listinfo, Unsubscribing etc. http://lists.moqtalk.org/listinfo.cgi/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org Archives: http://lists.moqtalk.org/pipermail/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org/ http://moq.org.uk/pipermail/moq_discuss_archive/
