Steve: I don't see how this is an example that all intellect is subject object thinking. Where are the subjects and objects in this? I see this as an example that shows that not all thinking is S/O based. Artificial intelligence is a Platypus in SOM because we have an object (the computer) thinking while in SOM only subjects think. The MOQ can resolve this problem... RMP Annotation 32 on artifucaial intelligence: "Since the MOQ states that consciousness (i.e. intellectual patterns) is the collection and manipulation of symbols, created in the brain, that stand for patterns of experience, then artificial intelligence would be the collection and manipulation of symbols, created in a machine, that stand for patterns of experience. If one agrees that experience exists at the inorganic level, then it is clear that computers already have artificial intelligence. A question arises if the term “consciousness” is expanded to mean “intuition” or “mystic awareness.” Then computers are shut out by the fact that static patterns do not create Dynamic Quality or respond to it." > Nevertheless these machines do show that symbol manipulation > can account for what we call thinking. I agree completely. > In programming an algorithm or series > of functional steps can be treated as an object, even a mind can be > considered as an object. > In SOM I think objects are physical substances while subjects are mental substances.
