The problem is "belief in ..."
 ... not "god" per se.
Lennon had that right.
All "idolatry" is false.

Like Descartes he also got the "me & Yoko" as the only real point of
certaintly "cogito ergo sum" n'all that. The difference is that
instead of me / we, we'd probably say the quality / value of "direct
experience" is all you can "believe in" with certainty.
